Alleged Knife-Wielding Suspect Shot by L.A. County Deputy in Lakewood

An incident unfolded in Lakewood on Saturday morning, as a man allegedly armed with two knives was shot and critically wounded by at least one Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy. The situation escalated after deputies responded to a report at 9:46 a.m. indicating that a man had brandished a knife at another individual near South Street and Woodruff Avenue, close to a Lakewood shopping center.

Upon attempting to detain the suspect, law enforcement officials encountered resistance as he was described as “uncooperative and refused to comply with their commands,” according to a statement released by the Sheriff’s Department. Despite efforts to subdue the man using a taser, he continued to advance towards the deputies and even demanded that they shoot him.

Realizing the imminent threat, at least one deputy made the decision to open fire, ultimately inflicting several gunshot wounds upon the suspect. Following the altercation, the man was swiftly transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Reports indicate that he was in critical but stable condition as of Saturday evening. Additionally, two knives were recovered at the scene by authorities.
