Woman viciously assaulted on Metro platform in Pasadena
A horrific incident unfolded at the Allen Metro station in Pasadena on Wednesday morning, where a woman was brutally assaulted in what authorities are describing as an attempted murder.
At approximately 5:45 a.m., near Pasadena City College, a man viciously attacked the woman by approaching her and striking her in the face without any warning, according to reports from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority obtained by The Times. The assault continued as the man repeatedly punched the woman until she fell to the ground. He then proceeded to grab her and forcefully hit her head against the platform multiple times.
Subsequently, the attacker pushed the defenseless woman onto the tracks and dragged her across the concrete freeway divider onto the 210 Freeway, which runs parallel to the Metro platform. Fortunately, the woman managed to escape and was promptly taken to a hospital for treatment. She is currently in stable condition awaiting further medical assessment.
Authorities have confirmed that the attack was unprovoked, and there was no prior association between the woman and her assailant.
Shortly after the incident, law enforcement officers from the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Transit Services Bureau were able to apprehend a suspect matching the description in the vicinity and have detained him on suspicion of attempted murder. Additional charges are expected to follow pending further investigation.
Expressing her deep concern, Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, who chairs the Metro Board of Directors, emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. She called for accountability regarding the presence and actions of Metro’s contracted law enforcement and transit security at the time of the assault and urged for enhanced security measures during early morning commuting hours.
“Our priority is to ensure the safety of all passengers using our trains, buses, and stations. We are committed to implementing necessary safety reforms to uphold the security of our public transportation system,” stated Hahn.
Times staff writer Rachel Uranga played a role in compiling this report.
