James Gunn has unveiled the next project in his Superman Saga. Man of Tomorrow will be in theaters July 9, 2027, the filmmaker revealed on Instagram on Wednesday.

The announcement was accompanied by a drawing by DC head Jim Lee featuring Lex Luthor in a green and purple mech suit, with Superman leaning against him, a slight smile on his face as he holds a screwdriver. Luthor’s armored suit, designed to battle Superman, has been seen for decades in the comics and in animation, but never in live-action.

Gunn has been teasing this new feature for weeks, saying that his next project won’t be a direct sequel to Superman, but will feature characters audiences already know from his summer hit.

“I’ve already finished the treatment for the next story in what I’ll call the ‘Superman Saga,’” Gunn told The Hollywood Reporter last month at the premiere for his TV show Peacemaker. “I’m working on that and hopefully going into production on that not too far away from today.”

It’s unclear what the story will be, but there was a Superman: Man of Tomorrow animated movie in 2020 that also featured Lobo (Jason Momoa plays the antihero in next summer’s Supergirl). The animated movie was based on a 2003 miniseries titled Superman: Birthright that was a modernization of the Superman origin story.

Coming up, DC Studios has filmmaker Craig Gillespie’s Supergirl due out June 26, 2026, with James Watkins’ horror title Clayface slated for Sept. 11, 2026.

Gunn is coming off of Superman, which earned strong reviews and introduced a slew of new characters to populate the DC Universe, not just Superman (David Corenswet), Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) and Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), but heroes such as Guy Gardner (Nathon Fillion), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi) and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced).

With $611.6 million globally, Superman stands as the top-grossing comic book movie of the year, but the sum also reflects the more challenging theatrical landscape when it comes to superheroes, particularly internationally. (In 2013, Zack Snyder Superman feature Man of Steel topped $670 million globally.)

Superman ended with a crying Luthor being taken away into custody. Wednesday’s post on Instagram seems to say he will return, more determined than ever … but with Superman’s friendly stance, perhaps some sort of alliance could end up being forged. Let fandom speculate away.

Daily Hub launched in public preview on the Pixel 10 series. There was a badge at the top of your screen just above the greeting, with Pixel Studio in 2024 also launching as a “Preview.” (The image generation and editing app graduated with its big 2.0 update last month.)

The weather and overview of your calendar worked as expected for users, while there’s also a “Keep these on your radar” section. This can surface emails (like bills), text messages (upcoming events), and Keep notes that would be useful. Aligned with Magic Cue, we’ve seen this section on some of our devices, but not very consistently.

Meanwhile, Daily Hub surfaced media recommendations that are powered by the same system behind Google Play Collections for apps that have opted-in. This can include music and podcasts while there’s also YouTube content based on your interests. My recommendations for podcast episodes have been fine, but it’s been hit-or-miss (especially with YT Shorts) for my colleagues.

The final carousel shows topics that you might want to learn more about or things to plan for. Selecting one will open the Gemini app with a detailed prompt entered. The utility of this is a bit uneven.

Google today stopped showing Daily Hub at the top of your Discover feed and in At a Glance on your homescreen or lockscreen. This temporary pause will let Google “enhance [Daily Hub’s] performance and refine the personalized experience.” The company did share when the “improved Daily Hub” will launch beyond “when it’s ready.”

I’m still playing Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (this backlog is insane), and I’m loving my time with it. While I acknowledge some people’s concerns about it, I’m fine over here.

Now, one game that I touched for 20 minutes and never returned to was Kingdom Hearts 3. I waited so long for that game, just for it to come out and not feel right. One day I’ll get back to it.

And with the (slight) update from Tetsuya Nomura, maybe I’ll try to time it up with the new games.

Kingdom Hearts 4 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 Are ‘Progressing Smoothly’

Thanks to a translation from Gematsu, we learned that during an anniversary stream for Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, things seem to be going pretty well for the development of both games. Given the state of things, I don’t think that’s a bad update to get. Mainly for two projects, as anticipated. On the topic of the FF7 Remake, he said:

“So yeah, things are moving along really smoothly, and the release timing has already been decided. We’re moving forward according to that schedule right now, so please rest assured and be patient.”

Finding out that the release timing has already been decided is pretty interesting. There are clearly some benchmarks being hit when they’re supposed to if he feels comfortable sharing that info—so, more good news for us.

I’m eager to see what direction they take the remake. What I’ve seen to this point has turned the original on its head enough that going back to play it still feels good. The remake series hasn’t spoiled the OG game for me, and that’s a hard trick to pull off.

He also made a point to say that Kingdom Hearts 4 is also on schedule. It’ll be interesting to see how they pivot off of KH3. That first trailer still looks like something not even in the same universe, and that, at minimum, will get me to take another look at it.
