Orange County is there for you with last-minute leap day wedding options

Are you feeling spontaneous and in love and considering tying the knot on a whim? Well, Orange County has got you covered with a last-minute leap day wedding! This special date only comes around once every four years, so why not make it even more memorable by saying “I do” on February 29th?

Orange County is known for its love of love, and the clerk-recorder’s office is ready to help make your leap day wedding dreams a reality. While appointments are encouraged, walk-ins are also welcome at three convenient locations: the county offices in Anaheim, Laguna Hills, and the Old Orange County Courthouse in Santa Ana. These locations will have extended hours of operation from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to accommodate all the lovebirds looking to take the plunge.

Orange County Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen expressed his excitement for leap day weddings, stating, “Leap Day is the perfect backdrop for couples to let their love take flight into an exciting chapter.” The clerk-recorder’s office is dedicated to making sure your wedding day is seamless and romantic, with staff available to help with wedding certificates and ceremony preparations.

While walk-in weddings will be done on a first-come, first-served basis, it is highly recommended to make an appointment online before heading to the courthouse. An online application must be filled out prior to the ceremony, which can be found on the Orange County clerk-recorder’s website.

So why do we have a leap day every four years? It’s all thanks to the Earth’s slightly longer rotation around the sun, which adds up to an extra day every four years. This helps keep the seasons aligned properly on the calendar. Couples who choose to get married on leap day will have the unique opportunity to celebrate their anniversary every four years, coinciding with events like the Summer Olympics and presidential elections.

And the cost of a public marriage license in Orange County is quite affordable at $61, with a confidential marriage license priced at $66. For an additional $28, you can have a civil marriage ceremony performed by the clerk-recorder’s office. If you have any lingering questions about your leap day wedding plans, you can always call the clerk-recorder’s information line during normal business hours.

So, if you’re feeling the love and excitement of leap day approaching, consider making it extra special with a last-minute wedding in Orange County. It’s a day you’ll remember for the rest of your lives, and who knows, maybe your love will take flight just like the leap day itself.

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Protesters reach an agreement to dismantle encampment

Protesters at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee have agreed to end their pro-Palestinian encampment following an agreement reached with the school, university officials announced on Sunday. The encampment, which had been in place for two weeks, will be dismantled by Tuesday, marking the end of what was believed to be the last standing encampment at a Wisconsin college.

University officials had allowed the encampment to remain on a patch of lawn between Mitchell Hall and a busy thoroughfare on the campus’s southern boundary, opting not to involve law enforcement. This approach differed from the response at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where police were called in to remove tents after negotiations fell through. Despite initial efforts to disband the encampment, Wisconsin-Madison eventually reached an agreement with protesters to voluntarily dismantle the camp prior to commencement ceremonies.

Chancellor Mark Mone of Wisconsin-Milwaukee stated last Wednesday that the university had exhibited “the widest possible amount of patience and restraint.” However, he also cautioned that patience was wearing thin and hinted at potential action by the school. Following discussions with the UWM Popular University for Palestine Coalition, the university agreed to advocate for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, condemn the destruction of schools and universities in Gaza by Israeli forces, and hold meetings with protest leaders regarding university investments.

Additionally, the university pledged to urge the Water Council, a Milwaukee organization of water technology companies, to sever connections with two Israeli government-owned entities, Mekorot and the Israel Innovation Authority. Chancellor Mone serves as the treasurer on the Water Council’s board of directors.

In return for these commitments, the protesters agreed to dismantle the encampment beginning on Sunday and completing the process by Tuesday. They also agreed not to disrupt the university’s commencement ceremonies scheduled for Sunday. In a statement, the protesters expressed their satisfaction with the agreement, stating, “After hard fought edits and careful consideration by the coalition, we determined we had obtained all possible benefits from the encampment.”

The resolution of the encampment at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee represents a successful outcome of negotiations between university officials and protesters. By reaching a compromise that addresses the concerns of both parties, a peaceful resolution has been achieved, allowing for the encampment to be taken down without incident.
