Metallica Causes Earthquake from ‘Enter Sandman’ Performance at Virginia Tech

Metallica is continuing to rock the world.
During the Wednesday, May 7, concert of the band’s M72 World Tour, the heavy metal rock band caused a minor earthquake when performing their hit “Enter Sandman.” The Lane Stadium show at Virginia Tech campus had over 60,000 fans in attendance, according to ABC 13 News.
When the band — consisting of Robert Trujillo, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett — played the opening notes of the 1991 song as the concert’s encore, fans excitedly jumped up and down. The result? A microseismic event.

A mile away, Virginia Tech’s Seismological Observatory clocked the earthquake during Metallica’s show. Despite the earth-shaking at the concert, the jumping didn’t even register a 1 on the Richter scale.
The low but prolonged Metallica Quake wasn’t dangerous for concertgoers, according to the local Fox News station and made for a memorable encore.
“Metallica saved ‘Enter Sandman’ for the final song of the night. It did not disappoint, shaking Lane Stadium so hard it registered on the Virginia Tech Seismological Observatory’s helicorder,” the Virginia Tech news website said.

“Nothing compares to experiencing it live, but this multi-camera video shared by the band comes pretty close.”
The Virginia Tech Hokies football team have played the song “Enter Sandman” as they take the field for over 20 years, making the Metallica Quake even more epic.
Metallica’s current tour is to promote their first album in seven years, titled 72 Seasons. Joining Metallica for their tour stops are Pantera, Limp Bizkit, Suicidal Tendencies, and Ice Nine Kills. They continue their United States shows through May and June, wrapping up in Denver, Colo.

This isn’t the first time fans caused an earthquake at a concert. During Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour show at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium in 2023, the 70,000 fans in the audience dancing and jumping caused seismic activity. Fans enjoying “Shake It Off” and “Love Story” caused significant movement.
The previous month, Swifties also caused an earthquake in Seattle at Lumen Field that reached 2.3 on the Richter Scale.

Gigi and Bella Hadid Introduce Their 23-Year-Old Half-Sister Aydan Nix

NEED TO KNOW
- Gigi and Bella Hadid announced on Thursday, May 29, that they have another sister
- The supermodels revealed that their father, Mohamed Hadid, has a sixth child, Aydan Nix
- The pair said in their announcement that their father had a “brief romance” with Aydan’s mother, Terri Hatfield Dull, over two decades ago
Gigi and Bella Hadid are sharing that they have a third sister.
The supermodel sisters announced that they have a 23-year-old half-sister named Aydan Nix, in a statement to the Daily Mail on Thursday, May 29.
Aydan is the daughter of Mohamed Hadid and Terri Hatfield Dull. Gigi, 30, and Bella, 28, revealed that Aydan was born after Mohamed’s “brief romance” with Dull — and after Mohamed, 76, and Yolanda Hadid divorced in 2001.
Their statement explained that Aydan was born and raised in Florida, and grew up with “the man she lovingly knew as her father until his sudden passing when she was 19.”

But after his death, Aydan took “a genetic test out of curiosity,” and she would soon realize her “biological connection” to the Hadid children. “We first connected in late 2023, and from that moment on, we’ve embraced Aydan with open arms.”
“She’s spent time with all of us, including our dad, and we’ve cherished this unexpected and beautiful addition to our family,” the statement continued. “As siblings, we’ve had many open and loving conversations— with Aydan included —about how to support and protect her.”
“Aydan and her family value their privacy, and we fully respect that. We kindly ask others to do the same and honor her wish and right to her anonymity as she continues her life as a young woman in New York,” the statement concluded.
PEOPLE reached out to representatives for Gigi and Bella for further comment.

The Daily Mail reported that Mohamed and Dull’s relationship ended before she discovered she was pregnant with Aydan. But, he allegedly “always knew” about his youngest daughter. Though he reportedly has “not provided” her with financial support, per the outlet.
A family source told the outlet that Mohamed is “cordial and pleasant” with his sixth child. “There’s mutual respect,” the source said, per the outlet. “But there’s also discretion.”
The outlet reported that he was expected to attend Aydan’s college graduation from the Parsons School of Design in May, but reportedly canceled around a week before. The Parsons graduate hopes to work in the fashion industry as a designer, stylist and influencer.
Mohamed shares Gigi, Bella and son, Anwar Hadid, 25, with ex-wife, Yolanda. He also shares daughters Marielle, 44, and Alana, 41, with his first wife, Mary Butler.

Audra McDonald hits back at Broadway rival Patti LuPone’s diss

Audra McDonald gracefully clapped back after Patti LuPone claimed they weren’t friends.
“If there’s a rift between us, I don’t know what it is,” the “Good Fight” actress said in a preview posted via Instagram Thursday for her upcoming “CBS Mornings” interview.
“That’s something you’d have to ask Patti about,” McDonald, 54, continued.
“You know, I haven’t seen her in about 11 years just because we’ve been busy just with life. So I don’t know what rift she’s talking about, but you’d have to ask her.”
Several fans applauded McDonald’s remarks, with one commenting, “classssssy girl!!! luv me some her! 👏🏿👏🏿.”
“A true lady is baited by NOone [sic]. ❤️ Great answer, Audra,” another added.
A third chimed in, “Audra is a class act (had she chosen to be petty I wouldn’t have been mad either).”
Reps for LuPone, 76, weren’t immediately available to Page Six for comment.
McDonald’s response came after the “Agatha All Along” star threw shade at her in a New Yorker profile published Monday.
“She’s not a friend,” LuPone said.
When LuPone was asked her thoughts on McDonald’s role as Mama Rose in the latest Broadway revival of “Gypsy,” she sat in silence for 15 seconds.
The outlet noted that she then turned toward the window and said, “What a beautiful day.”
LuPone notably played Mama Rose in the 2008 revival.
McDonald’s role in the musical earned her an 11th Tony nomination earlier the month, continuing her reign as the most-nominated Broadway performer.
The “Private Practice” alum has won six Tony Awards throughout her career, while LuPone has nabbed three.
The duo previously worked together on Broadway in 2000’s “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” and 2007’s “Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny.”
