- Princess Diana used a codename during the making of her wedding dress in a bid to keep the project secret
- The codename had a surprising connection to the future Queen Camilla, who had an affair with King Charles during his marriage to Diana
- Elizabeth Emanual reveals the name in a new documentary that airs in the U.K. on June 28
The making of Princess Diana‘s iconic wedding dress was a top-secret process, so it’s no surprise that there was a codename involved.
In a bid to keep their secrecy and eliminate any chance of leaks, the wedding gown designers and their small, loyal staff would use the name when referring to their famous client or when she made phone calls, which was revealed in an upcoming documentary.
Diana went by Deborah Cornwall. Her surname was perhaps inspired by one of the royal titles she took upon her marriage to the future King Charles — the Duchess of Cornwall — although she was better known by her higher title of the Princess of Wales.
Ironically, her fake last name would become more closely associated with the future Queen Camilla, who had an affair with Charles during his marriage to Diana. Camilla opted to go by the Duchess of Cornwall title instead of the Princess of Wales title upon her 2005 wedding to Charles before becoming Queen in 2022.
The name is unveiled by one of the creators of Diana’s wedding dress, Elizabeth Emanuel, in a new documentary, Secrets of Diana’s Wedding Dress, which will air on 5 at 9 p.m. U.K. time on June 28.
“When we started to see Diana, we were just very aware of security, so we decided to call her Deborah. We called her Deborah Cornwall. Isn’t that strange?” Recalls Elizabeth, who was part of the design duo with then-husband David Emanuel.

It was all part of the elaborate plans that the couple put in place to keep news of the gown and their famous client a secret.
As they hoped to thwart the inquisitive — and sometimes intrusive — reporters who were trying to find out more about the dress, the couple employed two security guards, Bert and Jim, who took turns looking after the premises. They would also put different swatches of material in the garbage bins, hoping to foil any journalists who may have been tempted to sift through the trash. Staff were also offered cash by reporters to disclose information about the wedding gown.
Other precautionary measures included the preparation of a second wedding dress, just in case the first was revealed or something happened to it. PEOPLE revealed the story behind that dress in April 2024, when Elizabeth unveiled a completed version of it.
“I was a bit neurotic, and I thought, ‘What happens if somebody breaks in and steals the dress or something spills or there’s a fire or it gets stolen?’ ” Elizabeth told PEOPLE exclusively in April 2024. “So I thought, ‘I’m gonna make a backup dress.’ ”

In the new documentary, Elizabeth remembers the day that Diana called the salon and ask if Elizabeth and David would do her “the honor” of making the dress — and the shriek of excitement that Elizabeth made when she was told (only having to make an excuse to the client she was serving at the time, telling a white lie about her brother expecting a baby).
As the design took shape, David recalls they couldn’t make an “understated dress. It had to be significant.”
The seamstresses beavered away upstairs, and later, the mothers of both Elizabeth and her personal assistant Caroline Slocock were drafted in to help.
One day, Diana wanted to “acknowledge” the work being done. They would keep Diana from the workroom, but “one day, she had persuaded me to let her go upstairs. She was just curious and wanted to see everybody. They were almost crying,” when she did, Elizabeth says the documentary.

Elizabeth’s favorite picture of them creating the dress shows her peeking from beside the skirt as they make amendments.
“I can’t believe we managed to create the dress in that attic space,” she says in the documentary.
When the dress came together, they chose to add the longest train they could imagine, even calling up wedding venue St. Paul’s Cathedral to check to width and length of the aisle so they could be sure it would fit.
Channel 5
Elizabeth and David also speak about how in the weeks leading up to the wedding day, Diana lost weight — going down to a 23-inch waist — and, after altering the bodice more than once, they started it all again.
“It was an extraordinary dress at an extraordinary time in history,” David says in the documentary.
“It’s really dominated my life ever since,” Elizabeth, who has set up her own studio recently making outfits worn by singers Madonna, Cher, Rita Ora and Courtney Love, says.

Josh Duggar speaks out on brother Joseph Duggar child molestation arrest

Former reality star turned convicted sex offender Josh Duggar slammed the “false accusations” against his brother, Joseph Duggar, who was arrested for allegedly molesting a 9-year-old girl.
Josh – speaking through his lawyer from prison – claimed to share the same “stigma” his 31-year-old sibling had after Joseph’s arrest in Florida on Wednesday.
“He lives with the painful reality of how false accusations can destroy a life. He understands how the targeting of a person for publicity can twist the truth into sensationalized fiction,” Josh’s lawyer told the Daily Mail.
The “19 Kids and Counting” star was “deeply saddened” to learn his brother was accused of inappropriately touching the girl multiple times during a family vacation to Destin, Florida, in 2020.
Joseph has been charged with Lewd and Lascivious Behavior, involving unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
The unidentified girl, now 14, made the disturbing claims to a detective with the Tontitown Police Department in Arkansas, asserting Duggar had repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap during the trip.
Duggar had also requested that the girl sit next to him on the couch and they would share a blanket, where he allegedly “manipulated the victim’s underwear and grazed her genitals.
The then-25-year-old also allegedly rubbed his hands on the girl’s thighs on multiple occasions.
Duggar eventually stopped the alleged abuse and apologized to the girl, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The girl’s father confronted Duggar about the allegations on March 17, 2026, as the businessman admitted to him and detectives that the accusations were true.
Duggar is being held in Washington County, Arkansas, awaiting extradition to Bay County, Florida.
The siblings have not been in regular communication since Josh was sentenced to 12 years in prison for receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material in 2021.
The older sibling had previously been under fire for accusations he sexually abused five girls – including sisters Jill Duggar and Jessa Duggar – in the early 2000s.
An investigation was opened into the accusations in 2006, but Josh was never charged and the statute of limitations has run out.
Josh is scheduled to be released from FCI Seagoville in Dallas, Texas, on. Dec. 23, 2032 — but is desperately fighting to appeal his sentence.
He hired a Chicago-based attorney after his request that the court provide him with a new legal team was denied, according to court papers obtained by Page Six.
The younger Duggar had supported his brother’s disturbing “secret life” during a December 2015 episode of their sisters’ show “Jill & Jessa: Counting On.”
“Whenever somebody you respect the most is willing to get up and proclaim what we believe as Christians, about being true to your wife, you’d never think that that’s the person who’s involved in it,” Joseph said.

Rebecca Gayheart has split from Peter Morton

Rebecca Gayheart and her mega-mogul boyfriend Peter Morton quietly split last year, sources tell Page Six, parting ways before the death of her husband Eric Dane.
Gayheart and Hard Rock Cafe founder Morton were first linked in 2023 when they were photographed in L.A. on a double date with model Claudia Schiffer and her husband Matthew Vaughn.
A source tells us the pair broke up nearly a year ago, in April 2025.
They were last spotted holding hands and giving each other a kiss on the lips in December while leaving E-Baldi in Beverly Hills, Calif.
A source tells us that despite appearances, it was not a date. We’re told the pair had run into each other and wound up catching up.
“They are still friendly,” says a source.
Morton’s father is Arnie Morton, founder of the Morton’s Steakhouse chain.
He and his partners sold their stake in the Hard Rock Cafe restaurants to the Rank Organization for $410 million in 1996. In May 2006, he and his partners sold the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas to the Morgans Hotel Group Company for $770 million.
He was previously married to Paulene Stone and Tarlton Pauley. He also had a relationship with Linda Evangalista.
Success runs in Morton’s family. His late son Harry was an owner in the Viper Room and founded Pink Taco. Son Matthew founded the popular Cha Cha Matcha and daughter Grace works as vice president of production and development for Taylor Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions.
Gayheart was married to Eric Dane from 2004 until his death from ALS in Febraury.
The pair were separated and Gayheart had filed for divorce in 2018. She dismissed the filing last March following Dane’s diagnosis.
“Eric knows that I am always going to want the best for him,” she wrote in The Cut in December. “That I’m going to do my best to do right by him. And I know he would do the same for me. So whatever I can do or however I can show up to make this journey better for him or easier for him, I want to do that.”
“We wanna take advantage of the time that he has right now,” Gayheart wrote. “He made it very clear that he wants to spend time with his family as much as possible, and I am committed to facilitating that.”

Uma Thurman reveals why she never lived in Los Angeles remaining in New York

Uma Thurman built an A-list career without ever planting roots in Hollywood, and the actress exclusively told InStyle that skipping Los Angeles may have cost her a deeper connection to the industry.
Despite cementing her status as both an A-list actress and an action star in “Kill Bill,” Thurman made a choice to stay rooted in New York.
“I actually always wished I had moved to Los Angeles,” she admitted during a cover interview.
At one point, the actress nearly made the move out west as her Hollywood career kept pulling her to California.
“I even got an apartment there at one point because I was working there really frequently, and as soon as I signed the lease, I got pregnant with my daughter within, like, six weeks.”
Instead of settling in Los Angeles, Thurman pivoted, choosing family over being close to Hollywood.
However, Thurman added that although the decision was practical, it came with trade-offs.
“I never did time in Los Angeles, and because of that, I kind of never integrated into the community of my own profession, and I think that’s too bad,” she continued.
Rather than building connections within Hollywood circles, Thurman found her sense of community elsewhere, much closer to home.
“I had more of a community with the other mothers at pickup on 16th Street and Rutherford Place, and that’s OK. But I wish I’d had that chapter. I think I really would have liked it.”
Still, Thurman makes clear she doesn’t dwell on missed opportunities.
“I think the choice to be happy is one that should be made, regardless of any conditions,” she said.
Thurman was previously married to actor Ethan Hawke. The couple met while filming “Gattaca” in 1997.
In 2004, Thurman filed for divorce from Hawke after being separated for several years.
The couple married in 1998, and their divorce was finalized in 2005. The two share two children, Maya and Levon.
Thurman and Hawke have both moved on to new relationships after their divorce
Hawke married Ryan Shawhughes in 2008, and they share two daughters, Clementine and Indiana.
Thurman dated Arpad Busson, and the pair became engaged in 2008 before splitting in 2009. The pair were off and on until breaking up for good in 2014. They welcomed their daughter, Luna, in 2012.
