‘Lost’ star Matthew Fox reveals why he walked away from Hollywood at height of his stardom

Matthew Fox was at the top of Hollywood — and then he walked away.
The “Lost” star, now 59, stepped back from acting for more than a decade despite starring in one of TV’s biggest hits, as Dr. Jack Shepard.
Fox, who is returning to the spotlight with a role in “Yellowstone” spinoff “The Madison”, opened up about his decision to take an acting hiatus while attending the New York premiere of his new show on Monday.
“I felt like it was time to engage really intensely with my family,” he told Variety.
Fox admitted his demanding schedule during the height of “Lost” meant he missed parts of his children’s younger years.
“I had missed some of their childhood because I was on set all the time with “Lost” and doing films and promoting everything,” he said. “It was the right moment for me to step back and take a moment and engage with the people that I love and care about the most in the world.”
After more than a decade away from regular TV work, Fox said he eventually began to miss the craft.
Fox returned to television in 2022 with the series “Last Light,” marking his first TV role since “Lost” ended in 2010. He later appeared in the comedy series “C*A*U*G*H*T” before landing his latest role.
“I kind of missed storytelling,” he explained, adding that he quickly said yes when producer Taylor Sheridan approached him about joining “The Madison.”
In “The Madison,” Fox plays Paul, a rugged bachelor who thrives outdoors.
The series centers on a New York City family who relocates to Montana’s Madison River Valley after a devastating plane crash kills two relatives. Michelle Pfeiffer stars as wealthy matriarch Stacy Clyburn, who uproots her family from Manhattan following the tragedy.
Though his career has long been tied to Hollywood, Fox has previously spoken about his desire to live somewhere quieter.
In 2008, the actor said he and his family had considered moving to Oregon, where his relatives lived and outdoor life was plentiful.
“I enjoy fishing, hiking and skiing,” Fox told People. “The mountains and fresh air and all these things are available pretty easily in Oregon without having to drive a long distance.”
Fox first rose to fame playing Charlie Salinger on the hit drama “Party of Five,” which ran from 1994 to 2000.
He later became a household name as Jack Shephard on “Lost,” the ABC sci-fi phenomenon that aired for six seasons from 2004 to 2010.
Along the way, he also appeared in films including “Smokin’ Aces,” “We Are Marshall,” “Vantage Point,” “Speed Racer,” “World War Z” and the 2015 Western “Bone Tomahawk.”
Fox largely stepped away from acting between 2014 and 2021. In a 2022 interview, he said that after “Bone Tomahawk,” he felt he had checked off many of the career goals he had set for himself.
“’I kind of had a bucket list in my mind of things that I wanted to accomplish in the business,” he told Variety. “I wanted to do a Western. It’s a very odd Western, but it’s a Western. And so that sort of completed the bucket list.”
At the same time, his two sons — Kyle, now 28, and Byron, 25 — were growing up.
“I felt like it was time to be home,” Fox said, adding that his wife of more than 30 years, Margherita Ronchi, had been “beautifully” holding down the fort while he worked.
“I really felt like I was retiring from the business, and working on other creative elements that are really personal to me – some music and writing.”
For now, though, the actor appears ready to step back into the public eye.

‘Wicked’ star Marissa Bode claims she was denied boarding Southern Airways flight over her wheelchair

“Wicked” actress Marissa Bode claimed she was denied boarding her Southern Airways flight because she uses a wheelchair — and she’s not holding back after calling out the airline.
The 25-year-old, who has been confined to a wheelchair since being involved in a car crash at age 11, took to TikTok on Thursday, claiming, “I was denied boarding a flight because I’m disabled,” describing the experience as “awful.”
Bode said the interaction occurred during a layover flight while she was traveling to a speaking engagement in Pennsylvania.
She said her first flight on United Airlines went smoothly, but things took a turn when she approached the gate for her connecting flight with Southern Airways — which serves only eight states in the US.
“I got to the gate and was like, ‘Hey, could you help me locate my boarding pass?’” she said.
“And the two people at the gate look at me and they’re like, ‘Can you stand?’ And I said, ‘No.’ And they said, ‘I’m sorry, because of that we’re gonna have to deny you boarding.’”
Bode said she was stunned by the explanation that followed.
“They proceeded to tell me all the planes within this airline have stairs to get on the plane. Wild. Never heard of that before … You’re telling me none of the people who have flown on your plane before are disabled?”
She went on to call the situation “blatant segregation,” adding that staff also raised concerns about her 35-pound wheelchair.
The actress said her team had already coordinated with the airline before the trip.
“My manager spoke to them beforehand and they fully assured that I would be set for my flight,” she said, suggesting the denial came despite prior arrangements.
“It is always something when I’m flying,” she said. “It is very rare that I’m flying and there isn’t a problem with my chair or I’m not talked down to.”
She added that the situation went beyond a simple mix-up.
“It’s so much more than bad communication,” she said. “It’s so much more than a mistake. These are our lives. This is our entire existence you’re talking about. My wheelchair is my freedom.”
Bode also addressed how she felt reacting in the moment.
“And of course when I’m crying out of frustration and talking to the people at the gate very firmly, I look like a crazy person,” she continued. “I look like the one that’s in the wrong.”
Ultimately, she had no choice but to make the trip by car instead.
“I had to drive three and a half hours to get to my destination,” she said, before blasting the airline directly: “You should be ashamed of yourself.”
“And airlines as a whole, once again, do f—ing better,” she added.
Under the Air Carrier Access Act, airlines are prohibited from discriminating against passengers with disabilities and are required to assist, including help with boarding and connections.
However, Southern Airways’ contract of carriage states that passengers “must be able to ascend and descend several steps” due to the design of its smaller aircraft, which typically carry fewer than 30 passengers.
The airline notes that it is not required under federal law to provide mechanical lifts in those cases, though ramps may sometimes be available.
The incident comes as Bode continues to gain visibility following her role as Nessarose in “Wicked.”
After the original film’s release in 2024, she faced backlash online tied to her character, with some viewers criticizing Nessarose as a “bad sister” to Elphaba — commentary that spilled into hateful comments about her disability.
“Aggressive comments and jokes about Nessa’s disability itself is deeply uncomfortable, because disability is not fictional,” Bode said at the time.

Kaia Gerber launches second Vuori workout wear collaboration
Kaia Gerber knows a thing or two about sweating in style.
The actress has been working out in Vuori clothing for years — and this week, she dropped her second collaboration with the activewear brand, dubbed For Kaia.
“I’ve always been a fan of Vuori,” the model daughter of Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford told InStyle. “My dad introduced me to it, and he’s a very fabric-forward person, all about comfortability, fabric and quality.”
She also posed for a campaign wearing the co-designed styles, which she calls “an amalgamation of all the things that I have been wearing and loving.” Below, shop several highlights from the colorful, comfortable capsule before they sell out.

Vuori’s fabrics are all about performance — just ask Gerber, who’s worn them for everything from strength training to low-impact workouts. These new leggings bring a new textured finish to one of the brand’s best-selling fabrics, and are available in both black and bright blue. (It seems Gerber is partial to the latter, as she modeled it for the campaign.)

Make it a matching set with this breathable, moisture-wicking sports bra, designed to stay comfy (and stylish) regardless of your workout routine.
“It’s not always clear whether workout wear is performance-based or not,” Gerber told InStyle. “What I love about Vuori is it’s all really high-performance. I do a lot of different kinds of training, so I wanted versatility, fabrics and pieces that could withhold running or sprinting, and also slower things like Pilates and yoga.”

She’s also introduced the brand to her personal trainer and “work-wife,” Kirsty Godso, who’s a fan of this versatile T-shirt.
“We are both obsessed with the baby tees from Vuori,” the model explained. “We often show up with the exact same outfit to the gym.”

These cozy pants just might be on track to become your new weekend go-to.

Blue is a common thread throughout the coastal-cool line, including this lightweight jacket Gerber styles with the matching pants.

Low impact, but not low on style. This cute sports bra is designed for activities like yoga and Pilates.

True to the name, these 2.5-inch inseam shorts promise a barely-there feel.

Nail the off-duty-model look with cozy staples like these sweatpant shorts.

Dianna Russini deletes X account

Diana Russini deleted her X account (formerly known as Twitter) as drama surrounding photos of herself with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel escalated.
The former Athletic reporter’s content was no longer visible on the platform as of Thursday evening, Page Six can confirm.
The sports journalist previously posted her resignation letter to the platform after Page Six published photos of her spending time with Vrabel in March at a luxury resort in Arizona.
Russini and Vrabel were also seen in photos from March 2020, chatting at a New York City bar and even apparently kissing each other, in photos published by Page Six on Thursday.
“They were kissing and they were all over each other,” an eyewitness told Page Six. “He had a ring on.”
The sports journalist initially claimed the more recent resort photos were taken out of context, and that she and Vrabel — with whom she was snapped holding hands — were joined by several other pals at the luxury Sedona getaway.
Multiple sources told Page Six, however, that wasn’t the case.
“Like most journalists in the NFL, reporters interact with sources away from stadiums and other venues,” she told us.
Vrabel, meanwhile, told Page Six earlier this month that the Arizona photos “show a completely innocent interaction and any suggestion otherwise is laughable. This doesn’t deserve any further response.”
On Thursday, following the publication of the 2020 snapshots, Vrabel — who recently divulged he’s seeking counseling — spoke to reporters at a press conference held during the NFL Draft.
“That’s a private and personal matter. I don’t think that those comments … I think that was, you know, I’m always gonna attempt to protect your family,” he said in part during the presser.
“I would never be dismissive, but I think my family and this football team are the most important thing and that’s what I plan to do, and I’m excited about the challenge with both of those things.”
Vrabel has been married to his wife, Jen Vrabel, since 1999, and the longtime couple share two sons.
The former ESPN reporter, meanwhile tied the knot with Shake Shack executive Kevin Goldschmidt in 2020 — six months after the March 2020 photos with Vrabel — and has since welcomed two sons with her spouse.
