Matt Damon says Hollywood’s ‘ruthless’ nature has taken him away from fatherhood more than he’d like
After decades in the spotlight, Matt Damon is opening up about how Hollywood’s “ruthless” nature has impacted his most important job to date: being a father.
In an interview with GQ, Damon — who stars as Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, in Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated film, “The Odyssey” — got candid about the constant uncertainty within the entertainment business and explained the sacrifices that came with it while being a dad to his four daughters.
“There’s less of that kind of young person’s engine of needing to prove something and more about, like, accepting work and doing it on your terms and doing it as precisely and as well as you can. I think about it a lot, especially as my kids are getting older: really trying to be here now,” said Damon, who is dad to Isabella, 19, Gia, 17, and Stella, 15, as well as Alexia, 26, from his wife Luciana’s first marriage. “And it’s hard for me to do that.”
“I think maybe that has to do with my own nature,” he added. “It also has to do with this career where you’re always trying to figure out what’s ahead, because it’s such an uncertain business and a pretty ruthless one. Those kinds of things have conspired to, I think, maybe take me out of where I am, more than I’d like.”

Damon was 18 years old when he took on his first role in Hollywood, a one-line dialogue in the 1980s film, “Mystic Pizza.” His breakthrough role as Will Hunting in “Good Will Hunting” alongside Ben Affleck came in 1997.
“I don’t think either of us stopped for years,” Damon told GQ about himself and Affleck after the release of “Good Will Hunting.” “I mean, I think I worked five straight years, literally out of these two duffel bags that I had. And I traveled everywhere and just literally would go from set to set. And I loved it. It was great. I loved what I was doing. I didn’t want to stop. There’s that insecurity of actors of like, the phone’s going to stop ringing.”
“There’s that list that you hear about, and you never know,” Damon said. “I mean, you know if you’re on it if your phone’s ringing a lot, but you don’t…. There’s no official list, but there is—sometimes you can get a movie greenlit at a studio, but not at another studio, and you’re really aware of that. I’ve always been really aware of that.”
There are some parts of the job, however, that helped him adapt as a father.
“I feel like fatherhood has made my job a lot easier in a lot of ways,” Damon told Fatherly in 2021. “All those emotions that I used to have to reach for are just readily accessible. I don’t have to twist myself into knots to find something—it’s just sitting right there all the time.”

When it comes to chasing roles, Damon said he slowed down significantly over the past decade, as he focused more on being home with his family, as well as working within his production company he founded with Affleck, Artists Equity.
“My youngest is a freshman, and I’ve been through this a few times and I know how quickly these years go,” he told GQ.
However, when the opportunity to take on his latest role in “The Odyssey” arose, he was fully in.
“It’s a little bewildering,” he told GQ. “Because of where the movie business is going, it was a really weird movie for me personally, in the sense that I had almost a nostalgic feeling the entire time I was making it, because it felt like movies were when I started working. And I know that that’s going away. I knew that this was the last chance I was ever going to have to do something like this.”
While Damon has had to navigate the pros and cons to work-life balance as a father, he knows at the end of the day, life moves fast.
“Your kids show up—like that spirit that soul is there, and it’s going to do what it’s going to do,” he said during an appearance on Travis and Jason Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast. “The nurture part is very important; you’re going to be helping with that, but they really are who they are right away.”
As far as his parental advice?
“Don’t blink,” he told the Kelce brothers.

Chadwick Boseman’s family fighting over late actor’s estate

Chadwick Boseman’s family members are feuding over his estate, nearly six years after his tragic death.
According to documents obtained by Page Six on Tuesday, the “Black Panther” actor’s two older brothers, Derrick and Kevin Boseman, filed a lawsuit on behalf of their parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman, against Chadwick’s widow, Taylor Simone Ledward.
The filing asks the court to remove Ledward as administrator of Chadwick’s estate and order her to distribute assets to Leroy and Carolyn.
The documents allege that Chadwick’s wife had not distributed her late husband’s estate — including over $3.8 million in assets and cash — as ordered by a court back in 2022.
Derrick and Kevin allege in the docs, filed July 17 in Los Angeles, that Ledward — who inherited 50% of the actor’s estate — was expected to distribute the other half equally between Chadwick’s parents, with each of them receiving 25%.
“Nearly four years later, [Taylor] has still not distributed the estate,” the documents read.
“Instead, [Taylor] continues to exert unilateral control over [Chadwick’s] estate, denying [Chadwick’s] family long overdue closure or participation in decision-making regarding matters affecting Leroy and Carolyn’s interests in [Chadwick’s] estate.”
Chadwick’s brothers also allege in the filing that Ledward “failed to fully account” for her late husband’s assets, including “royalties and residuals, image and intellectual property rights, real property, a previously undisclosed bank account, and other personal property.”
The brothers claim Ledward — who previously claimed Chadwick’s assets included $241,000 in an IRA, $3.3 million in stock for Chadwick Boseman, Inc. and $151,000 in cash, deemed by the court as a “true and correct” accounting in 2022 — “failed to officially account for … numerous residual payments from SAG-AFTRA dating between 2020 and the present.”
Derrick and Kevin claimed Chadwick’s widow is not distributing rights to the late actor’s intellectual property and image.
“These rights properly belong to [Chadwick’s] heirs,” the documents read, noting that they are “ostensibly managed by Chadwick Boseman, Inc., a corporate entity completely controlled by [Ledward] and through which she continues to profit from [Chadwick’s] fame.”
The brothers claim Ledward “blocked” them from “pursuing lucrative business opportunities that might benefit [Chadwick’s] elderly parents.”
Ultimately, they alleged, Ledward’s “lack of transparency” with them over the “42” actor’s estate “creates the appearance that she is concealing assets from [Chadwick’s] family and from the Court.”
Page Six has reached out to Ledward’s legal representation for comment and attorneys for Derrick and Kevin did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Boseman died — notably without a will — at the age of 43 on Aug. 28, 2020, following a private and yearslong battle with colon cancer.

Heidi Montag wears pink bedazzled latex bodysuit for festival performance

Heidi Montag is back in her pop star era.
The “Hills” alum channeled Barbie as she performed an hour-long set at the Neon Skies Festival in Canada over the weekend in a daring all-pink look.
Her outfit included a pink bedazzled latex bodysuit featuring a halter neck and large cutout on the chest with thigh-high boots.
The 39-year-old mother of two also rocked a matching latex skirt that she ripped off mid-performance.
Montag entered the stage with a sheer hooded cape — also bedazzled around the hems — that came off as she started the show.
Meanwhile, Montag’s signature blond hair was flowing everywhere as she danced and sang her heart out on the stage.
Montag gave her Instagram followers plenty of glimpses of her daring outfit with multiple posts from the concert.
“What an incredible show!” she wrote alongside one post. “Thank you to everyone who showed up and showed so much love!”
Montag added, “It was an honor to preform on the same stage as the phenomenal @slayyyter ! Thank you @neonskiesfestival ! Dreams come true!”
At the concert, Montag wowed the audience with some of her classic singles like “I’ll Do It,” “Superficial,” “Body Language” and “Blackout.”
She also performed her fan-favorite songs “Ex Machina,” “Icon” and “Summer Love” from her recently-released third album, “Masterpiece.”
Montag put out her debut studio album, “Superficial,” in 2010 and returned to the music scene last year after her and her husband Spencer Pratt’s $2.5 million home burnt down in the Pacific Palisades, California wildfire.
With newfound attention on her life and career, Montag released her second album, “Heidiwood,” in May 2025, followed by “Masterpiece,” which came out June 26.
During a recent interview with US Weekly, Montag called getting the offer to headline the Neon Skies Festival “a huge moment in my career.”
“Little by little, I’ve just been working on this show since I got the call, and then really ramping it up in the past few weeks as well,” she explained. “I’ve consistently been doing rehearsal for months now, and then you know, incorporating that.”
But Montag noted that during rehearsals, her main focus was being a doting mom to her and Pratt’s sons, Gunner, 8, and Ryker, 3.
“My children are my priority, so I wanted to give space for them getting sick or me getting sick or who knows anything happening,” she shared.
Montag was also busy supporting Pratt, 42, in his failed bid to become Los Angeles’s next mayor.
After the election outcome, Montag tweeted last month: “I couldn’t love my husband more and be more proud of him. What an inspiration, what a hero.”

Zendaya gives cheeky response to fan’s marriage proposal

Zendaya is happy to let everyone know she’s off the market for good.
The “Dune” actress, 29, had the perfect response to a fan who shouted “Will you marry me, please?” as she walked the red carpet at the “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” event in Mexico Monday.
“You’re too late!” Zendaya replied while laughing, as seen in a video of the cute moment shared on Instagram.
Zendaya is, of course, referring to her marriage to her longtime “Spider-Man” and co-star Tom Holland.
Holland, 30, himself recently made a marriage joke while promoting “The Odyssey” in an interview with Wired, alongside co-stars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson.
Zendaya also stars in the Christopher Nolan-directed epic.
The group answered fan questions, including one that read, “Did Athena (played by Zendaya) love Odysseus (played by Damon) romantically?”
“No. Because she’s married to me,” Holland cracked, garnering laughs from both Damon and Hathaway.
The British actor confirmed the two privately wed in an interview with Esquire last month after intense speculation.
When he was asked by the magazine if he had to let his family members know that the AI-generated photos of the couple at their wedding going around social media were fake, he responded, “No, because they were all there.”
He didn’t give any details about their secret wedding, but did note of their relationship, “Our business can present very stressful situations and it’s really nice to have a bedrock of a relationship that will stand the test of time.”
He added that his wife was his “person” and his “best friend.”
“I’m the happiest I have ever been when I’m with her,” he gushed. “But I have also never felt so supported and safe, ever. Period.”
In a recent appearance on the UK-based “Dish” podcast, Holland refered to Zendaya as his “wife.”
When asked which of his “The Odyssey” co-stars he’d most like to enjoy a Greece holiday with, he replied, “I think probably my wife would be pretty good.”
“It’d be strange if I said, ‘Sorry, babe, I’m gonna take Matt [Damon], actually,’” he joked.
Holland and Zendaya have been linked since 2017, and got engaged over the 2024 holidays.
It’s unclear when they tied the knot, but her longtime stylist, Law Roach, dropped the bombshell that they were already married at the 2026 SAG Actor Awards in March.
“The wedding has already happened,” he told Access Hollywood during a red carpet interview. “You missed it.”
