A family of four from Texas remains missing after their boat capsized during their vacation in Alaska.
On Saturday, Aug. 3, David Maynard, 42, and his wife Mary, 37, from Troy, and their two sons, 11-year-old Colton and 7-year-old Brantley, were sailing near the city of Homer on a 28-foot aluminum boat when it started to take on water at around 7 p.m. local time, U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson Travis Magee said, per the Anchorage Daily News.
The family had been out with four other people at the time, a spokesperson said on Sunday, Aug. 4, per the outlet. All of these were rescued uninjured from a life raft, the report added.
The U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Coast Alaska didn’t immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE.
Per the Associated Press, the search for the family was suspended on Sunday evening, and Magee told the outlet he didn’t have additional information on the four rescued passengers.
The U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson also said he didn’t have further details on the boat or what caused the vessel to sink, the AP reported.

The Anchorage Daily News cited authorities as stating that waves had been around 2 feet tall and winds were less than 5 knots (6 mph) when the boat capsized. The area the Coast Guard has been searching is approximately 16 miles west of the Homer Spit, the publication added.
Per KCEN-TV, the water at the time was around 51 degrees Fahrenheit.
Christi Wells provided a statement on behalf of Mary Maynard’s parents, which revealed that Mary is a traveling nurse, while David has a lawn care business, the Anchorage Daily News stated. They were reportedly visiting family and friends in Alaska.
Wells said that the couple’s sons Colton and Brantley both like to play soccer and baseball.
The Coast Guard’s public affairs specialist Shannon Kearney told KCEN-TV, “Any time we make a decision to suspend a search and rescue case is a very difficult one to make.”
“Cases that are suspended, they’re only suspended pending the development of new information,” Kearney continued. “If anything comes to light, any new information that we get, we’re more than happy and willing to go out and continue our search.”
“Our hearts are definitely with the families right now as they grieve,” Kearney said.

A GoFundMe page set up to help the family with unexpected expenses has so far reached around $9,500.
“By now, a lot of us have heard about the tragic news. For those who don’t know, this sweet family of four was lost at sea on their vacation to Alaska,” a description stated on the page. “Mary’s parents are still there hoping to bring them home. This family is going through a lot right now.”
“The Maynards left a huge imprint on many people, from the laughter they brought to us, the love and family-oriented connection they provided, It is indescribable the void that will be left behind but I know if we come together as a family and a community they would know how much they meant to everyone,” it added.
“This was approved by a member of the family,” the message confirmed.

Grimes Says She Has ‘Begged’ Elon Musk to Keep Their Kids Out of Public Eye

Grimes says that she has “begged” Elon Musk to keep their three children out of the public eye.
In a post shared on X on Thursday, March 13, the musician, 36, wrote that she has “begged” her former partner Musk, 53, to stop showing her children in public and on social media, and has even turned to “legal recourse.”
Grimes (whose real name is Claire Boucher) was responding to a fake post on X that purported to show her talking about the “sexuality” of “Fortune 500 CEOs,” and replied to a fan who asked: “How to protect your children from this? Can’t you wipe this garbage from the internet?”
“I unfortunately do not control the internet and cannot wipe this from the internet,” Grimes answered the fan. “I have tried begging the public and my kid’s dad to keep them offline, and I’ve tried legal recourse. I follow you here, I’ve seen young [people] destroyed by the internet too.”

“The state of my children’s lives being public is of grave concern to me and I think about how to solve this every day,” she continued. “It’s insane to me that there’s no way to deal with this. I would hope there was some law that would allow a parent to veto small children from living public lives but I don’t even trust the law to help me now if I tried to invoke it [to be honest].”
“We are in the Wild West of information content and the dismantling of privacy and it’s very concerning,” Grimes finished.
Musk previously made headlines when he brought the pair’s oldest child, son X Æ A-Xii, 4, to the Oval Office on Feb. 11 as President Donald Trump signed an executive order granting Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency more power.
Soon after, Grimes shared that she wasn’t aware of her son’s public appearance, only learning about it through an X user.
“He should not be in public like this,” the singer wrote on X at the time. “I did not see this, thank u for alerting me. But I’m glad he was polite. Sigh.”

Soon after, the musician also spoke out in an interview with Time published on Feb. 24, and
responded to critics who called her out after criticizing Musk.
“It was like, ‘Grimes slams,’ ‘Grimes speaks out.’ It’s like, OK, it was a reply. But I would really like people to stop posting images of my kid everywhere,” she told the outlet, adding that she believes “fame is something you should consent to.”
“Obviously, things will just be what they are. But I would really, really appreciate that. I can only ask, so I’m just asking,” she added.

Grimes and Musk broke up in September 2021 after three years together. Three months later, they quietly welcomed daughter Exa Dark Sideræl via surrogate.
In September 2023, it was revealed that their third child together, son Techno Mechanicus, was born in June 2022.
The Tesla CEO is father to 14 children. He shares six children with ex-wife Justine Wilson. Their eldest, Nevada Alexander, died of infant death syndrome (SIDS) at 10 weeks old. He also shares four children with Shivon Zilis, an executive at Neuralink, and influencer Ashley St. Clair has claimed that she and Musk welcomed their first child together in September 2024.

Drake Bell Reflects on Coverage of His Teenage ‘Missteps’ (Exclusive)

- Drake Bell starred in The Amanda Show and Drake & Josh on Nickelodeon in the 2000s
- The actor tells PEOPLE about “trying to figure out life” as an “adolescent” after Drake & Josh ended in 2007
- Bell says “there’s a strong love” for his music “outside the U.S.” and he will be heading to South America for tour dates in support of his latest album, Non-Stop Flight
Life in Hollywood can be tough on anyone, but navigating it as a kid put extra pressure on Drake Bell.
“When you’re an adult, of course, it still has [an] effect, but when you’re this adolescent trying to figure out life and all of a sudden you’re like, ‘Why every time?’” Bell, 38, tells PEOPLE.
The Nickelodeon alum feels like even when he didn’t “make a mistake” while out and about in the 2000s, the media would try to make it seem like he did.
“You’re walking with your friends and you trip outside of the Chateau Marmont on your way to the taco shop, and all of a sudden the next day it’s like, ‘Drake Bell stumbles drunk out of the Chateau Marmont,’” Bell says. “You’re like, ‘There was a crack! I tripped on the sidewalk!’ It’s always just that highlighting of all of your missteps.”

Bell came up during the peak tabloid era, but he’ll take that over today’s intense social media scrutiny.
“I’m thankful that Josh and I missed the social media era while we were working,” he says of former Drake & Josh costar Josh Peck. “We didn’t have to compare, ‘Why did Josh have more followers than I do on Instagram? Oh, Josh got more likes on his picture than I did that I posted. What do I have to do?’ I’m just so glad that we didn’t have to live through that.”

Though Bell has been focusing on his music as he tours the world for his latest album, Non-Stop Flight, the “I Kind of Relate” singer hasn’t abandoned acting. Bell reveals he’s been working on a “fun romantic comedy” in Mexico, where he’s amassed a large fan base.
“I’m in Mexico a lot,” Bell says. “I recorded half my record there. I do a lot of work there, but I feel like I don’t have a permanent place right now just because I’m traveling so much. It’s literally spend two days in my apartment and then every other day is in a hotel, on a plane, in a car. I’m not sure where I live right now!”

The ex-teen star does consider Mexico home now, though, after his music took off there following the end of Drake & Josh.
“I don’t know if in the States maybe sometimes there’s been a stigma of like, ‘Oh, you’re on TV. You’re not a real music [person].’ They just blur the lines outside the United States,” Bell hypothesizes of why his music took off in Mexico and South America. “So they know me from the show, but the first time we went out there, they’re singing all the lyrics from the album, the songs that aren’t on the show, and fans are telling me about my lyrics and my songs. There’s a strong love for the music outside the U.S. It’s really cool.”
Bell says that “loving what I do” has helped him navigate life after opening up about the sexual abuse he endured as a child star under his former dialogue coach Brian Peck in the Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV docuseries last year.
“I want to get on stage and perform. I want to make movies and TV. I want to make people laugh,” he continues. “I got to just stay focused and happy and healthy and keep my mind away from the demons. They’re always there, but being positive, trying not to dwell and keeping people around you that care about you, that’s something that I really gained. I have people that really care about what I have to say, and I need to focus on this.”
