The Georgia native was known as a powerhouse performer, who could often be seen singing in New York subways. In 2010, Ridley was nationally recognized for her gift when she performed on America’s Got Talent.
“Alice is just brilliant,” judge Piers Morgan said after she sang “At Last.”
Howie Mandel seemed impressed by Ridley’s progression on the singing competition show, saying, “Every time she moves on, it’s heartwarming and moving.”
Ridley was born on Dec. 21, 1952, and came from a big family. She was the seventh of eight children.

The singer graduated from the Stewart County High School in 1969, and went on to get her teaching license from the New York State Board of Education. She taught at PS 134, her obituary said.
Ridley married the Empire actress’ father, Ibnou Sidibe, in 1980, and welcomed Sidibe in 1983. The former couple also welcomed son Ahmed Sidibe before they ultimately divorced. Still, the former couple remained cordial as the years went on.
According to her obituary, Ridley was known as “a pillar of the New York City singing circuit,” where she could primarily be seen singing at Herald Square for over 30 years.
She also worked at Harlem’s Cotton Club as a paid singer.

In addition to her subway performances and competing on AGT, Ridley also appeared on Showtime at the Apollo in 2005 and was featured in comedian David Chapelle’s award-winning documentary Rize that same year.
Her accolades included an Emmy for her role in the 2007 documentary Military Families. She released her debut studio album Never Lost My Way in 2016.
Israeli student Dvir Assouline started managing Ridley in 2010 after witnessing the crowds she would draw in subways. “Whenever I saw her performing, there were always hundreds of people around her,” he previously told The Hollywood Reporter. “She brought joy to so many people every day.”

Maya Hawke Makes Red Carpet Debut with Boyfriend Christian Lee Hutson

Maya Hawke stepped out for a night on Broadway with her boyfriend Christian Lee Hutson, marking the couple’s red carpet debut.
Hawke, 26, attended the opening night of John Proctor Is the Villain in support of her Stranger Things costar Sadie Sink at New York City’s Booth Theater. Hutson, 34, accompanied the actress to the theatrical premiere. Hawke wore a pleated skirt paired with a collared sweater, leather trench coat, and Prada loafers. Hutson donned a sporty, casual look with a denim-on-denim outfit paired with a brown turtleneck and white Converse sneakers.
The couple met four years ago through their work in the music industry. Hutson is known for his indie folk music style and collaborations with Phoebe Bridgers, whom he supported on her 2021 Reunion tour.
The musical couple collaborated on Hawke’s 2024 album Chaos Angel, featuring the notable single “Missing Out.” In July 2024, Hawke opened up about working with her boyfriend on the Zach Sang Show.
“It is awesome. I mean, I cannot recommend highly enough dating your friends. It’s the best. They know you, and as a human being who has dated other people. They really know you as a person who has feelings … not just a piece of paper for them to project their image of perfect girlfriend onto,” the actress told host Zach Sang.
Hawke first costarred with Sink, 22, on Stranger Things in 2017, when both actresses joined the cast. Several other Stranger Things cast members walked the carpet in support of Sink, including Natalia Dyer, Finn Wolfhard and Gaten Matarazzo.
Sink stars as high school student Shelby Holcomb in John Proctor Is the Villain. The play, written by Kimberly Belflower and directed by Tony Award winner Danya Taymor, follows a group of Georgia high school students reading Arthur Miller’s classic Salem Witch Trials play The Crucible.

The play sees the students “as they delve into the American classic, the students begin to question the play’s perspective and the validity of naming John Proctor the show’s hero,” according to an official synopsis. The show marks Sink’s third Broadway credit.

At opening night, Sink exclusively told PEOPLE, “Kimberly’s writing is so brilliant and truly captures teenagers and such an authentic light and deals with some uncomfortable topics, but in such a digestible, honest way.”
The actress continued, “So I’m incredibly more proud of our team and the message that this show has.”
The fifth and final season of Stranger Things has wrapped production and will premiere on Netflix later this year with an exact date to be announced, per Tudum.

Cardi B gets mixed reactions after twerking at Revolve Festival

Cardi B got mixed reviews after proudly twerking onstage during her Revolve Festival 2025 performance Saturday.
The “WAP” rapper raised eyebrows when she bent over to shake her bum in her appearance in Thermal, Calif, per fan videos shared via X.
Cardi showed off her figure in a skintight pale blue jumpsuit as danced and wiggled her assets to her 2018 hit “I Like It.”
The 32-year-old Grammy winner’s signature move, however, didn’t please everyone, with one person writing, “That booty smacked itself.”
“ARREST Cardi B’s surgeon IMMEDIATELY,” another user added.
Despite several critics, one fan gushed, “Cardi B looking snatched at the Revolve Festival.”
“The way she just looks happy and having fun, love this for my girl,” a second chimed in.
“Cardi is always serving looks … fr, she knows how to turn heads. That fit is next level,” a third netizen wrote. “Can’t wait to see what she pulls out next!”
“She’s everything,” a fourth added.
Cardi’s viral booty-shaking came after she previously opened up about getting illegal butt injections for $800 in a basement in Queens, NY.
“They don’t numb your ass with anything,” she told GQ in 2018. “It was the craziest pain ever. I felt like I was gonna pass out. I felt a little dizzy. And it leaks for, like, five days.”
The “Up” singer admitted to getting the injections after her ex-boyfriend cheated on her with another woman who had a bigger bum.
Cardi, however, claimed she got the injections removed in 2022.
“All I’m going to say is that if you’re young, if you’re 19, 20, 21, and sometimes you’re too skinny, and you be like, ‘OMG I don’t have enough fat to put in my ass,’ so you result to ass shots, DON’T!” she said in an Instagram Live video, per Today.
The rapper also confessed to undergoing a breast augmentation.

Katie Cassidy Remembers Dad David on His Would-Be 75th Birthday

April 12 would have been David Cassidy’s 75th birthday — a time to look back on the life and legacy of one of the biggest teen stars of the 1970s.
Cassidy became a household name through his role as Keith Partridge on The Partridge Family, a musical sitcom that debuted in 1970.
With his boyish charm, shaggy hair and standout singing voice, the 20-year-old quickly became the face of a generation. Though the show was fictional, its music was real and Cassidy’s voice helped launch hit songs like “I Think I Love You” to the top of the charts.

Born in New York City in 1950, Cassidy grew up surrounded by show business. His father, Jack Cassidy, was a well-known actor, and his stepmother, Shirley Jones, co-starred with him on The Partridge Family.
This year, Cassidy’s family took to social media to honor his birthday, sharing heartfelt tributes and memories that celebrate his life, talent and the impact he had on so many.
Shaun Cassidy, who shared a father with David, posted a black-and-white photo on Instagram to recall the time they spent together as young children.
“When David came to visit us on the weekends, my mother always made it a priority to celebrate him. She knew how difficult it was for a kid to be shuttled back and forth between two households, and she never wanted David to feel like he was a guest or a ‘half-brother’ in our home,” Shaun wrote.
“There were no better nights than when David came to sleep over, and no better mornings than those spent walking around Westwood, dining at ‘Ships’ coffee shop, and then riding the ponies at Beverly Park. Before my younger brothers were born, these were the happiest days of my childhood because I got to share them with my big brother, Dave. God, I miss him. Happy Birthday pal.”

While fame came quickly, it wasn’t always easy. Cassidy faced personal battles — most notably with alcoholism. In 2017, he was hospitalized with organ failure and died that Nov. 21, at the age of 67. The official cause of death was liver failure, a result of years of alcohol-related health issues.
Cassidy was married three times: first to actress Kay Lenz in 1977 and then to horse breeder Meryl Tanz in 1984. His last marriage was to songwriter Sue Shifrin in 1991. The pair share one son together, Beau Devin.
David’s daughter, Katie, from his relationship with model Sherry Williams, also took to Instagram to share a photo of herself with her father, wishing him a Happy Birthday.
“I love you & I miss you so much. Not a day goes by I don’t think of you,” she wrote. “I promise to always make you proud. You’ll forever live within me & Beau… ❤️”
