Army Pilot Rebecca Lobach, 28, Identified as Third Soldier on Helicopter in D.C. Plane Crash

The U.S. Army has shared the identity of the third soldier who was aboard the Black Hawk helicopter that crashed into a passenger plane as Capt. Rebecca Lobach.
According to a statement from the Army shared with PEOPLE on Saturday, Feb. 1, Lobach was a 28-year-old captain originally from Durham, N.C. She was assigned to the 12th Aviation Battalion in Fort Belvoir, Va., and had served since July 2019.
The decision to withhold her name initially was at the family’s request, and now the decision to release her name has come “at the request of and in coordination with the family,” according to the Army statement.
“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Rebecca. She was a bright star in all our lives,” her family said via a statement released by the Army. “Rebecca was a warrior and would not hesitate to defend her country in battle.”

Lobach’s friend, 1st Lt. Samantha Brown, told CBS News that she also served as a White House social aide during the Biden administration.
In January, Lobach escorted fashion designer Ralph Lauren through the White House as he was visiting to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom from former President Joe Biden, Brown told CBS News.
The Army captain attended Sewanee: The University of the South, where she played basketball, and then later went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received her degree in biology in 2019 and was a distinguished military graduate, Brown added. She enlisted in the North Carolina Army National Guard in December 2018 while still in college.
Many of Lobach’s friends and Army colleagues have spoken out following her death, remembering her as a dedicated captain and friend.
“Not only did she deserve what she achieved, but she was overqualified most of the time for what she was able to accomplish,” Capt. Bilal Kordab, who recruited Lobach to the North Carolina National Guard, told USA Today. “Nothing was just handed to her.”
“How do you sum up 28 years of a person?” her friend Lt. Brown added to the outlet. “28 years old and gone violently… it’s the worst possible thing.”
Brown also remembered Lobach as a voracious reader, who would often offer to buy friends books that she liked, an athlete who could “smoke” anyone when it came to weightlifting and someone who was passionate about her work.
“She was just so jazzed” when she received the title of captain one year ago, Brown told USA Today. “She was so proud to be piloting command.”
According to Brown, Robach was also a certified victim advocate with SHARP, the Army’s Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention program.

The Army previously identified the other two soldiers aboard the Black Hawk helicopter as Chief Warrant Officer 2 Andrew Eaves, 39, of Great Mills, Md., and Staff. Sgt. Ryan Austin O’Hara, 28, of Lilburn, Ga., who was the chopper’s crew chief.

The move to withhold Lobach’s name came after President Donald Trump claimed that the government’s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies and the mental health of employees were to blame for the crash.
“I am hoping that people can look past the political aspect of the whole situation and look past her race and her gender,” Lobach’s friend, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Sabrina Bell, told USA Today. “I hope that she’s remembered more for the impact that she had on other people’s lives.”
On the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 29, American Airlines Flight 5342 collided with a Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River as the passenger flight approached Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The crash, which involved three soldiers on the helicopter and 64 people on the airplane, is believed to be the most deadly aircraft incident since 2001.
The fiery collision sent both aircrafts plummeting into the Potomac River and all 67 passengers on both aircrafts are presumed dead.

Jason Kelce reacts to Eagles’ win, Travis’ loss in Super Bowl 2025

He can’t choose between the City of Brotherly Love and actual brotherly love.
Jason Kelce admitted he is struggling to navigate his feelings about the Philadelphia Eagles’ blowout win against his brother, Travis Kelce, and the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2025 Super Bowl.
The retired Eagles center shared a lengthy X post early Tuesday discussing his admiration for both his former team and the Chiefs tight end.
“There were a lot of emotions last night, and now that I’ve collected my thoughts, I’ll attempt to share them in the longest tweet ever,” he began. “That game was odd for me to watch if I’m being completely honest.”
Jason, 37, confessed that he “knew” he was going to be dealing with “mixed emotions” throughout the game, which he compared to the 2023 Super Bowl when he and the Eagles faced off against — and lost to — Travis, 35, and the Chiefs.
“On one hand, I wanted what is best for my brother, and to see his success,” he wrote. “And on the other hand, there are so many people, teammates, and coaches, in the Philadelphia Eagles organization that I care deeply about, Many of whom I owe my own success to throughout my career.”
Jason expressed his “love” and “care” for his “New Heights” podcast co-host while also pointing out that Travis does not want his “pity.”
“It has been tough to process these feelings, of course I feel for him and am always rooting for him, but I know he does not need, nor want my pity,” he wrote. “He has amassed greatness few on this planet could ever dream of, as has his team, and they should feel pride in their accomplishments this season and in the past.”
Jason, who retired from the NFL last year after 13 seasons, related to how the Chiefs are reliving their “shortcomings” during the devastating game, but he also reminded them that those feelings will “fade” with time.
“The greatness they have exhibited as a group will remain as one of the most dominant eras of football ever,” he said of the Chiefs’ back-to-back Super Bowl wins in 2023 and 2024.
The “Monday Night Countdown” analyst also took the opportunity to congratulate Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and coach Nick Sirianni.
“It is extremely difficult for a team in the NFL to have enough talent, coaching, fortune, and character to win a Super Bowl,” he wrote. “The character and swagger of this Eagles team was something truly special to behold. A true representation of the toughness and grit that makes Philadelphia what it is. Well done fellas, well f–king done.”
Jason summed up his message by expressing his “love” for the sport and his excitement for what’s to come.
He shared the lengthy statement after watching the Eagles defeat the Chiefs from his VIP suite with his wife, Kylie Kelce, parents, Donna and Ed Kelce, and Travis’ girlfriend, Taylor Swift, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday.
Travis, for his part, only briefly addressed the 22-40 loss in the locker room after the game.
“We haven’t played that bad all year,” he told reporters late Sunday night. “You don’t lose like that without everything going bad.”
The tight end explained that he and the Chiefs “were always gonna fight” to win, but they “just couldn’t find that spark” or “momentum.”
Swift, 35, has also stayed tight-lipped about her boyfriend’s upsetting game, but a source told Page Six that she is “comforting” him while acknowledging how “hard” he “worked all season.”
“Taylor knows Travis took this loss very hard, but she couldn’t be more proud of him regardless of the outcome,” the insider told us Monday.
The source explained how the Grammy winner and the three-time Super Bowl champion are now “looking forward to enjoying some downtime.”
“They knew that Taylor’s Eras Tour would be wrapping in December and football season would be coming to an end now, so they had planned for this time to focus on some alone time to just be together,” the insider told us.
“Taylor and Travis are going to take some time away to vacation with just the two of them, talk about their future and just relax.”

Justin Baldoni Reflects on ‘Intense’ Year in Podcast Taped Before Blake Lively Court Filing

- Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively are in an ongoing legal battle after the actress sued the actor/director, accusing him of sexual harassment and a retaliatory public smear campaign to “destroy” her reputation
- The accusations came months after the release of their film It Ends with Us, and Baldoni responded by countersuing the actress
- Although he did not discuss Lively in his newly-released podcast appearance, he chronicled his “intense” year
Before being sued by Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni was already having an “intense” year.
Baldoni made the revelation in an episode of the Gent’s Talk Podcast released on Monday, Feb. 10. The installment was filmed in November 2024 — a month before Lively, 37, filed a lawsuit against her It Ends with Us costar and director, 41, accusing him of sexual harassment, followed by a retaliatory public smear campaign to “destroy” her reputation.
“This morning, I sent a text message to my best friend Jamey and the president of my company, Tera, and I told them that I wasn’t in the best place,” Baldoni said on the podcast. “I told them that I was exhausted, that I haven’t given myself time to recover or time to heal.”
Jamey Heath is the CEO of Wayfarer Studios and Tera Hanks is president of the production company.
Baldoni, who also directed It Ends with Us, said his emotions were the result of “an intense year.”

“A lot of material success and a lot of emotional stress was very hard on me and my family. I wear a lot of hats, and I carry a lot because I love what I do,” he said, noting that he has “love” for his company.
“I love the people that work for us. I love the movies that we make. I love the impact that we have and yet sometimes it’s easy to, as you said earlier, fall back into our programming and be swept away in the current of self and be kind of overtaken by the wave of success and opportunity,” Baldoni said.
He explained that after waking up at 4:30 in the morning with his “heart racing,” he realized that he was dealing with “some anxiety” and “not in the best place.”
After checking in with himself, Baldoni said he was reminded that he needed to prioritize his time and “just haven’t given myself the time to heal from this year that I needed.”
He said that “in the spirit of vulnerability,” he shared the same message with his assistant and a similar text message with his publicist, Jennifer Abel.
The actor shared that he is a “work in progress,” who is “always trying to be radically sincere and authentic to myself” to “have the most impact.”
“And sometimes I can get lost in the same way that everybody gets lost, but healing isn’t linear, and growth isn’t linear, and if you don’t have setbacks and if you don’t have plateaus, then you don’t have the opportunity to group and to push forward,” said Baldoni.

The podcast’s release comes amid Baldoni’s ongoing legal battle with Lively.
On December 21, Lively named Wayfarer, Baldoni, Heath, Abel and others in her lawsuit.
On December 31, Baldoni sued The New York Times for $250 million, alleging libel, false light invasion of privacy, promissory fraud and breach of implied-in-fact contract, after the outlet published a story titled “We Can Bury Anyone’: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine” about the allegations against him.
A month later, Baldoni filed another lawsuit suing Lively, her husband, Ryan Reynolds, their publicist Leslie Sloane and Sloane’s PR firm Vision PR, Inc. for $400 million, on claims of civil extortion and defamation, among other claims.
