The true reason behind Eric Dane’s departure from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is finally revealed

Eric Dane, best known for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan on the hit series “Grey’s Anatomy,” recently opened up about the real reason why he believes he was fired from the show. In a candid interview on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, Dane revealed that he thinks he was let go due to financial reasons.
The 51-year-old actor acknowledged that he was “struggling” with drug and alcohol addiction towards the end of his six-season run on the show from 2006 to 2012. While Dane clarified that his addiction issues were not the sole reason for his departure, he admitted that they did not help the situation.
“It wasn’t the drugs and alcohol that got me fired, although it definitely didn’t help,” Dane explained. “I believe I was starting to become too expensive for the network. As most actors who spend significant time on a successful show, you start to command a higher salary, and the network knows that the show will continue to thrive regardless of who they keep on it, as long as they have their main character, in this case, ‘Grey.'”
Dane went on to express his understanding of the decision to let him go, as he recognized that he was not the same person he was when he first joined the show. Despite the circumstances surrounding his exit, the actor had only positive things to say about show creator Shonda Rhimes, praising her for being a fierce protector of the cast.
“She protected us fiercely, publicly and privately. I love Shonda Rhimes, and she protected me, but ultimately I was probably fired,” Dane recalled. He emphasized that his departure was not a formal firing but rather a decision that he would not be returning to the show.
Reflecting on his time on “Grey’s Anatomy,” Dane shared that he had been sober for three to four years before joining the series but experienced a relapse during the 2007 Writers Guild of America Strike. This relapse marked a turning point for him, as he realized that he had spent more time struggling with addiction than being sober during his time on the show.
In the show, Dr. Mark Sloan met a tragic end as a result of a plane crash in the Season 8 finale. While his character initially survived the crash, he ultimately passed away at the beginning of Season 9. Dane later made a guest appearance in Season 17, reuniting with Chyler Leigh, who played his onscreen love interest, Lexie Grey. Leigh’s character also perished in the crash, adding a poignant and emotional touch to their reunion.
Despite the challenges he faced during his tenure on “Grey’s Anatomy,” Eric Dane remains grateful for the experience and the opportunities it brought him. His candor in discussing the reasons behind his departure sheds light on the complexities of being a part of a long-running and successful television series. As he continues to navigate his career post-“Grey’s Anatomy,” fans can appreciate Dane’s honesty and courage in addressing his struggles and triumphs both on and off the screen.

Aaron Goodwin Files for Divorce After Wife’s Alleged Murder-for-Hire Attempt

Ghost Adventures star Aaron Goodwin has filed for divorce after his wife Victoria Goodwin’s alleged murder-for-hire attempt.
On Wednesday, March 12, Aaron, 48, filed a complaint for divorce from Victoria, 32, in Clark County, Nev., court records obtained by PEOPLE show.
In the complaint, Aaron asks that neither party be awarded alimony and that both parties’ community assets and debts are in accordance with Nevada law.
He also asks that his separate assets and debts be confirmed as his sole property and that he be awarded “his reasonable costs, expenses and attorney fees incurred herein.”

Aaron claims his reason for filing for divorce is that “the views, tastes, likes and dislikes” of himself and his estranged wife have become “incompatible to the extent that it has become impossible for them to live together as husband and wife in marital harmony.”
“There is no possibility of reconciliation between husband and wife,” the complaint further alleges.
Aaron and Victoria tied the knot in August 2022, sharing the news on Instagram alongside several photos of the celebration, held at the Haunted Mansion in Disneyland. However, he listed his marriage date as “on or about May 4, 2020” – the day the pair were initially scheduled to walk down the aisle, per Us Weekly.
When contacted by PEOPLE, Aaron’s representative had no comment.
On Thursday, March 6, Victoria was arrested on charges of soliciting to commit murder and conspiring to commit murder, according to inmate records in Clark County, Nev., reviewed by PEOPLE.

Inmate records show that she was held on $100,000 bail and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 25.
According to a police report obtained by TMZ, investigators found messages from Victoria to an inmate in a Florida prison about murdering her husband, Aaron. She is alleged to have provided the location and filming times of Aaron’s show.
She allegedly set aside over $11,500 to pay the inmate in October 2024. They had also exchanged messages about a $2,500 upfront payment, per the outlet.
“Am I a bad person? Because I chose to end his existence. Not divorce,” one of the alleged texts read, the outlet reported.

Police allegedly became aware of the messages after corrections officers found and seized the smuggled phone that the Florida inmate was using. Victoria has denied plotting to have her husband killed and wanting him dead, and said she was simply fantasizing about being without her husband according to TMZ, citing police.

Martha Stewart admits Matthew McConaughey ‘scared’ her during ‘crazy’ filming experience

It was not alright, alright, alright.
Martha Stewart admitted Matthew McConaughey “scared” her with his method acting while filming their Super Bowl 2025 commercial for Uber Eats.
The lifestyle guru discussed the experience with the actor’s repeated co-star Kate Hudson on Tuesday’s episode of Stewart’s eponymous podcast.
“So I just worked with your co-star Matthew McConaughey,” Stewart began.
When the “Running Point” star asked whether McConaughey was “wild,” Stewart jokingly replied, “He got me scared actually.”
“There I am, I’m a board member of Uber Eats and I’m the one who’s making the Caesar salad and Matthew — he had to play many characters in that commercial. He is a method actor, I think,” Stewart, 83, said.
Hudson, 45, seemed confused by Stewart’s admission as she attempted to clarify whether she meant McConaughey was a method actor “of commercials.”
“Of characters,” Stewart responded. “Because he had to play 10 characters, and he got into each character. It takes him about 15 minutes.”
McConaughey, 55, played numerous different characters — including legendary Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka and an NFL exec — in the star-studded Uber Eats commercial, which aired during the big game Feb. 9.
In one scene featuring Stewart and pop star Charli XCX, the Oscar winner cracked a joke about Caesars Superdome being named after a salad as a conspiracy to sell food.
“He’s grunting and breathing and jumping up and down. And that scared me,” Stewart recalled of McConaughey’s preparation.
Hudson — who starred with the actor in “Fool’s Gold” and “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” — seemed to understand where Stewart was coming from, as she agreed, “He’d make weird sounds. He makes sounds and does crazy things.”
“You probably just wanted to tell him to shut the hell up,” Stewart quipped in response.
“You just wait, It’s like his warm-up,” Hudson said. “We have so much fun when we’re working. It’s been a long time.”
The actress went on to call McConaughey one of “the most fun people to work with,” citing their mutual competitiveness.

The Traitors’ Gabby Windey Started Drinking Alcohol at 13

Gabby Windey picked up a drink years before she turned 21.
The former Bachelorette, 34, invited her Traitors season 3 castmate Carolyn Wiger onto the March 13 episode of her Long Winded podcast, and the two had an honest conversation about their relationships with substances.
Wiger, 38, shared that she got sober at 22 and now works as a licensed drug and alcohol counselor. Windey said she’s “so interested in sobriety” because “I really do I want to stop drinking.”
“I’m so depressed that it like, it will make me depressed,” Windey continued. “Not even the day after but like, a week. Like, and you won’t even notice it.”
Windey also shared that she began drinking alcohol at a young age.
“I started drinking at 13,” she said. “I was throwing up out of my nose.”

As for Wiger, the Survivor alum said she used a fake ID to go to bars and become “a stripper when I was 16.”
“I thought I had to change my personality too because I blamed my personality on drugs and alcohol,” Wiger said of getting sober.
Windey acknowledged that her behavior changes when she drinks alcohol, too, pointing to a recent dinner where she spilled the tea with Traitors costar Boston Rob Mariano after drinking a couple glasses of wine.
“I was talking a lot of s— with Boston Rob. He’s such a good gossip,” she said to Wiger. “I had two glasses of wine and by the end I’m like, ‘Are you going to go back and tell everyone what I said?’ And then I’m like, ‘I don’t care.’”

The Bachelor alum didn’t initially expect to have anything in common with Mariano. 49. “We were sitting on the end, just him and I, and I’m like, ‘Great, what the f— are we going to talk about?’” Windey wondered.
By the end, “he was laughing at every single thing,” said Windey, who secretly married comedian Robby Hoffman in January. “And I’m like, ‘No you’re encouraging me at this point! You’re egging me on and I’m taking the bait.’”
Despite the fun evening, Windey realized: “I wouldn’t gossip with Boston Rob if I wasn’t two glasses of wine deep.”

Windey won season 3 of The Traitors alongside fellow Faithfuls Dolores Catania, Dylan Efron and Ivar Mountbatten. She called the experience “great” on her podcast, but suggested she wouldn’t do it again.
“If they bring people back, you’d be way better at it,” Windey said to Wiger. “Plus what the f—? I talk enough s—. I don’t need to go on another TV show to do it.”
Windey also teased that “it makes me nervous that too many people like me now” after going on The Traitors and exposing herself to a new audience.
“I want the people who don’t get it not to get it,” Windey explained. “I want to piss off the right people. Literally the right and the right. But it’s like, if too many people like me, they’re going to be disappointed, they’re going to come here and be so pissed at me. Like, I don’t want, I don’t need everyone to love me. This is like, too much pressure. I need to be accepted for who I am. But then, the more eyes like the scarier.”
