She was born in New York City on May 30th, 1980, and she lived in the Bronx for her childhood. The childhood of Remy was very difficult. She took care of her younger siblings and started doing so at a very early age when her parents were both alcohol users. Her sister Kristin Devereaux was particularly close to her.

Remy had to work out how her passion could be achieved, gain money and provide for her family all in one job so that she wanted to do something she cherished, including music. The way to deal with her struggles and her family’s drug abuse was to write poetry and make rhymes. She eventually realized she was great and started to write about her.

She quickly became popular in the Bronx area and was soon noticed by Big Pun: in 2000, Big Pun was her mentor and she became the guest artist of Yeeha Baby on his record. She was noticed by Fat Joe after his death, who asked her to meet a rap crew.
Despite having decided to do a solo career for several years, and having signed a deal with Universal Music, she was part of Terror Squad.
