‘Mia Thornton from ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ shares the ‘breaking point’ that led to her decision to file for divorce from Gordon’
“Real Housewives of Potomac” star Mia Thornton has opened up about the breaking point that led her to file for divorce from her estranged husband, Gordon Thornton, last fall.
In an exclusive interview with Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea” podcast, the 39-year-old reality star revealed that disparaging remarks made by Gordon, who is 71, in October 2023 pushed her to make the decision to officially end their marriage. She expressed that she was not willing to tolerate public shaming and decided to file for divorce to move forward.
Mia and Gordon, who have two young children together, separated in June 2023 but did not announce their breakup publicly until September of the same year.
One month after their separation, Gordon gave a controversial interview to TMZ where he disclosed that he had given Mia permission to be with other men to fulfill her needs. He expressed concerns about his ability to satisfy all of her needs and cited frustration with Mia’s desire to leave their 11-year marriage.
Mia was taken aback by Gordon’s statements but emphasized that she would never publicly shame him, as they have children together whom she wants to protect. She highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy co-parenting relationship for the sake of their kids.
Currently dating radio DJ Incognito, Mia shared that she and Gordon have established a positive co-parenting dynamic as they navigate the details of their divorce. She expressed her desire for Gordon to remain an active part of their children’s lives and to continue being a hero to them.
Despite the challenges they faced, Mia revealed that Gordon has stepped up and is now actively involved in their children’s lives, often joining them on family outings with Mia and her new partner. The reality star addressed rumors of an upcoming wedding in April, clarifying that they are focused on finalizing their divorce before considering marriage.
While wedding plans are on hold, Mia expressed her happiness at reconnecting with Incognito, praising him for his understanding of her true self and his busy career as a syndicated radio personality. She emphasized that they are both focused on nurturing their relationship and creating a stable environment for their blended family.
The new season of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” airs on Bravo on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET.
