Tupac Shakur: Facts About The Man Behind the Music

Tupac Shakur was an American rapper, actor, and poet who rose to fame in the 1990s as one of the most prominent voices in hip-hop. Born in East Harlem, New York City on June 16, 1971, he began writing poetry and performing as a teenager, which led to his introduction to Digital Underground as a roadie and backup dancer.
He then released his debut album, “2Pacalypse Now,” in 1991, which dealt with themes of social injustice and police brutality and was a commercial success. In 1995, he signed with Death Row Records, releasing the successful albums “Me Against the World” and “All Eyez on Me” and collaborated with notable artists such as Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Notorious B.I.G.
He was known for controversial lyrics and public feuds with other rappers. On September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas and died from his injuries six days later, on September 13, 1996.

Early Life and Career
Born in East Harlem, New York City on June 16, 1971, Tupac Shakur was the son of Black Panthers activists Afeni Shakur and Billy Garland.
As a teenager, he began writing poetry and performing in local groups, which led to his introduction to Digital Underground as a roadie and backup dancer.
